Bush-it undertakes work in remote areas of New South Wales for National Parks & Wildlife Service, local governments and private landowners. This generally involves camping close to the work site for periods of up to a week. Staff enjoy these trips as they are a chance to work in areas less affected by urban developments and to see a different range of plants and animals to those found in the Sydney area.

Managing bushland in remote areas presents a very different set of challenges to those found in metropolitan areas. The larger areas of remote reserves mean there are less of the “edge effects” seen in urban areas, however this also means work sites are less accessible and the distances between them greater. Weed infestations can also cover larger areas and require suitable strategies to control them.
